I tried installing Vista Ultimate on Sunday, spent several hours arranging my data and making sure I had all the drivers for everything I needed. It installed just fine, everything looked and ran great! Well... that is until I tried to install the supposed "Vista-compatible" driver version for my USB wireless adapter... with my luck, it didn't work at all and it turns out that no such drivers really exist, it was incorrect information about it being vista compatible...

So before I knew it I had to load up Acronis True Image and restore my windows XP Hard Drive image. Worked like a charm, and without me having to set everything up. It was definitely a great investment buying it. There's also a free version for people with Seagate and Maxtor hard drives here: link I wanted the extra functionality so I upgraded from the free version, but either way, it's very useful. It also makes buying Acronis true image cheaper since you can pay 40% less with the upgrade price.

So basically, the moral of the story is that Gigabyte sucks for networking components. On second thought, they suck at everything... I'll have to get a new network setup before I can run vista permanently.

Here's the router I'll probably get if I can: link (Yeah, when it comes to computers, if it has a screen, It's sold!)

When I am older and the computer iliterates (my dad) become computer literate (you) and realize the concept of home networking, I am going to set up a beastly network for my house that controls everything in it. Theres so much opoortunity in that field it is amazing. :>

Ah, I love system restore... *gets all warm and fuzzy inside*
Btw, that's one sexy router, but I mean, is the screen really necessary?

Yeah, too bad it's not as simple to restore to XP by default.
Well, a screen has never really been necessary, but it's nice anyway.

I think the moral of the story is more along the lines of not switching to vista
Or at lest wait until it can somewhat function.

To the contrary. Vista is a fine operating system. There is nothing really "Wrong" with it when things don't work. It is nothing more than the individual software and hardware manufacturers fault for not updating their software and drivers. Microsoft can't exactly barge into every software company and force them to, so they just update their stuff in their own time. It's not Microsofts fault or problem at all. People tend to jump to conclusions blaming them.

Most things however do work fine in vista, it's just that a complaint usually travels ten times further than a compliment.

Vista does have some issues, but they're not that much different from the same issues that were on the pre-Service Pack 1 XP system. The "User Account Control" thing (the feature that warns you whenever an .exe is run and begs for permission as if it's afraid of being wrong) is annoying, though, so I turned that off as soon as I figured out how to. But I've actually gotten pretty used to it; it's not much more than a prettied up XP in my opinion. The other issue I have is that they relocated or hid alot of the regular controls, or renamed things unnecessarily (Add/Remove Programs is "Programs and Features" on Vista. Took me 10 minutes to figure that out).

The one thing I can say they did fix on Vista, though, is that the help option actually helps, instead of skipping around and presenting circle logic as an explanation.

Yeah, I was able to relocate things fairly quickly, but it was bothersome finding out. Especially since they changed a lot of the folders. Eg. the contents of documents and settings is mixed around into "users" or something.

By the way, how much that mouse cost you?

They still look like a cheap imitation, plus I'll bet they aren't laser.
Not sure how much mine cost, you'd have to check amazon or something.
