Goodbye 450Gb, Just about everything I have. - End of The World, Fried Hard drive, Sabrent is STUPID

What's up you ask?
We're safe and sound here in California now.
Flights were long and reasonably boring.
Vusys lied and didn't actually come to the airport to spy on me in London.
I've been wondering why on earth we took backpacks as hand luggage to take on the plane rather than get easy-to-pull pull-along cases with wheels... those backpacks weighed a TON.
Not much jet-lag was experienced once we got here, and I've had almost no internet access till now. xP

Ok, all the boring info done, now for the actual topic of this blog.

I read ALL the reviews, particularly the bad ones since I wanted to know that what I was getting wouldn't NUKE my hard drive... and it looked pretty safe, not quite idiot proof from the looks of the 1-3 star reviews, but there was no mention of FRIED hard drives and they had the most positive reviews too.

Well, so then I get it and hook it up to my Hard drive and immediately smell this burning smell coming from my Hard drive... after which, I IMMEDIATELY ripped the power cable out like two seconds after it had been plugged in... but alas, it was TOO LATE. *sniff*

Turns out the power supply for it must have been faulty and well... byebye 450gb's of everything I've been saving for the last... FOREVER!

*sigh*

So I check amazon again and sure enough, someone had added a review mentioning their fried hard drive on Sabrent's other USB to SATA adapter.

Where to go from here? Well, to start with, I emailed Sabrent; no reply... I guess they know what they sell is trash and they don't even have a phone number on their site. I managed to find one and will be complaining tomorrow (Monday). Hopefully they'll at least cover the cost of me purchasing a new identical 500gb hard drive so that I can try this method of saving my stuff: link
I managed to find an identical hard drive on eBay for $89 + $12 shipping, so I'll see if I can get that and hopefully it'll work replacing my control board. Things don't look extremely good though.

So yeah... the joy.

Moral of the story: Just get a decent hard drive case for an internal hard drive if you intend to connect your internal Hard Drive to a PC via USB. Adapter cables might look all convenient and everything, but unless you have nothing to lose, it's not worth the risk. Also, keep [b]multiple[b] backups of anything you don't want to lose.
