My first real attempt at anime. I'm not sure why I'm putting my finger to my head like that, but that's the pose I decided to go for. ^-^ If anyone actually knows how to draw in an anime style, leave some constructive criticisms, please. =D

Mostly decided to do this cuzzzzzz..... i felt like it! And it makes a good user pic thingy. =3

Larger version avalible to scrutinize soon on my deviantart account.

Oo I like the fungers! haha... fungers.. whatever. The arm elbow projected position is slightly out of proportion, so I suggest raising the hand a little higher and the arm. Have you checked deviant art tutorials? they are very helpful. the face could use some light shading, mouth too. Shoulderwidth a little short, but not unnaturally short. Body could use some more form, unless you like it that way. More hair shading is optional, and the skin color is unatural too, unless you like it that way. Heck, everything is optional. Your style is more important than learning how to draw anime straight and pure, and even anime artists vary greatly. These are just some tings I would do. Oh your lines are a little shaky on the cheeks by the ears too, but it's impossible to get them 100% straight so ignore that. The area between the cuffs of the sleeve and glove could be a dark skin colored, unless he has double gloves o_0

Don't let all this critisism get to you, I'm trying to help you but if it seems like flaming, I honestly apologize. This is a very awesome first attempt at anime, hey mine was... well lets not talk about it >.< Your proportions are really good, shading is excellent. I like the perspective, and nothing is unnatural. Detailing is pretty much good everywhere, lines are nice and even, it even seems like this could be a real person if you did a buncha stuff. I mean there's no real "anime impossibilities" to it. Except for the blue hair.

Thanks a ton. This is very helpful and I appreciate it a lot. ^-^

I think the hardest thing while penciling this one was the hand. I redrew it over so many times to try to get it to look better.. You should see how it loked like before. I should have been less lazy and changed the initial angle of the arm. I really only changed the position of the hand and angle of the forearm.

I also did a lot of fixing with the squiggly lines. Drawing it out at first, most of my lines didn't come out too straight. I'm not sure if Gimp has anything that helps to straighten them out other than zooming in really close, erasing the bad lines, and doing them over more carefully. Next time, I'll se if I can find anything to help with that. Or just zoom in closer when I'm drawing the initial lines.

But the gloves.. yeah, they came out a little wierd. How I drew it was>> Metal glove connected to a light grey cloth on the wrist which leads up to a black part that folds around and back up to the wrist. The black and gold part is actually a part of the glove itself, but I do see how it looks a bit "disconnected" from the rest of the glove.

Just a few ranting of mine on my own stuff. I'll definitely check out the deviantart tutorials. I'd like to continue doing more anime stuff. Thanks again for all the constructive criticism. =3
Bands: Conformity for the purpose of conforming is bad for you. I listen to what i like

Uh there's a pen tool or something on CS3 that you can use to trace lines, or I know that if you get points on a line you can alter (like in paint.net) it's easier to get straight lines. I got fed up with gimp in the first 5 minutes, so it wasn't for me. But Just get real familiar with your photoshop program, even actually click that help button may help, once in a great while.

lol I love the Help button. No matter what program you're using, you can expect to be more confused and lost than when you started. =D

WOOT! Critisism time lol.
First off you should practice drawing a million hands (lol thats what i did, modeled my own hand). Another thing that I do is body porportions. If you measured your forearm it is technically as long as your feet or the height from your chin to the top of your head. The elbows are where the curve to the body is (dont no what its called; forgot) Uhm, i dont no how to say this in a more descriptive way, but make the arms and body more uhh..... equalized. You should check some tutorials on DA to see the porportions of people. Try drawing with bases and not just starting off from the head or whatever you do. The styles of anime vary, so i cant help you on that part. If you want the manga anime type-ish i guess the heads are a but larger in porportion. (bleh i cant spell for crap) If you want a more realisic anime thing the eyes are smaller and the head is too. (forgot to mention the eyes) In this picture you have them closed, etc.

~yea.... i hope i didnt sound too picky *o* just stating, probably gonna give you some tips on the more recent drawing too lol. Sorry if im one of those weird critic ppl XD.

Thanks for the criticism ^-^ I do appreciate it.
Yeah, proportion is always my biggest nemesis. I'm a complete anime noob, despite how this pic may look. This is really the first anime/manga type thing I've ever drawn. I really just looked at what someone else did and tried to kinda replicate it in my own way. XD

But yeah, next time I'll try harder on the proportions and all. Come to think of it, the hand IS a bit small. My art teachers always make me sketch a ton of hands, but never really tie it all in, so getting the right size is the hardest part for me.

That, and when I tried to model with my hand, I had to twist it around a lot. XD

You did this on gimp?! *Drools*
How the heck did u get your lines so straight and bold? lol
About the paintbrush question, idk, but I think it does. I usually airbrush most of my stuff, to give the "realistic" feel to it.
Maybe if you google gimp tutorials? XD
*still amazed by staight lines*
