There are so many people neglecting proper English on the internet. So when a new user is introduced to any sort of internet community, he or she is (probably) less inclined to put any effort into whatever they type. The acronym "LOL" is so terribly overused that people will type it where it doesn't belong or in the wrong situation. I really think it just slips out without any conscious decision.
