(1) Mushishi (26 episodes) Genres: Adventure, Drama, Fantasy, Horror, Mystery, Psychological, Supernatural Plot Summary: They are neither plants nor animals. They differ from other forms of life such as the micro-organisms and the fungi. Instead they resemble the primeval body of life and are generally known as "Mushi". Their existence and appearance are unknown to many and only a limited number of humans are aware of them. Ginko is a "Mushi-shi" who travels around to investigate and find out more about the "Mushi". In the process, he also lends a helping hand to people who face problems with supernatural occurances which may be related to the "Mushi". Thoughts Love this. The stories are simple and surreal, the art work is vivid and beautiful. Its a must watch, trust me. (2) Witch Hunter Robin (26 episodes) Genres: Drama, Mystery, Police, Supernatural Age rating: Teenagers (May contain bloody violence, bad language, nudity) Plot Summary: Witches are individuals with special powers like ESP, telekinesis, mind control, etc. (not the typical hogwart and newt potions). Robin, a craft user, arrives from Italy to Japan to work for an organization named STN Japan Division (STN-J) as a replacement for one of STN-J's witch hunters who was recently killed. Unlike other divisions of STN, STN-J tries to capture the witches alive in order to learn why and how they became witches in the first place. Thoughts 'If you like mystery, intrigue, dignified supernatural goings-on and lots of moody atmosphere, then you will like this.' Or so a reviewer said about this anime. It isn't bad, it just didn't jump out and grab me by the throat, know what I mean? Still is a pretty good watch though. (3) Claymore (26 episodes) Genres: Adventure, Drama, Fantasy, Shounen, Supernatural Plot Summary: In a world rife with deadly creatures called "youma", a young silver eyed woman, Clare, works on behalf of an organisation that trains female youma halfbreeds into warriors with the ability to destroy these creatures. Considered a rogue for picking up a stray child & almost losing herself to her youma side by "Awakening", she is constantly assigned rather dangerous missions... Thoughts Don't think this requires any introduction, do you? I loved the manga so I thought I'd give this a try. Pretty good, different feel but still good. Me, I like the manga better. Which do you like? (4) XXXholic (24 episodes) Genres: Comedy, Drama, Horror, Mystery, Psychological, Slice of Life, Supernatural Plot Summary: Kimihiro Watanuki is a young boy with a cursed gift. He has the ability to see evil spirits, and somehow they seem attracted to himself. One day he meets a misterious woman who names herself Yuuko. She claims to have the means to end his torment, but she never works for free, and she wouldn't help him until he works for her enough to pay for her services. Thus he starts to work in her shop and discovers that in that place, nothing is what it seems. Thoughts I read the manga too. Actually thought they did a pretty good job translating the manga into movement. Too bad they don't have a second season. Yuuko is so cool!! The stories are cool, has some scary bits, all in all, WATCH IT! (5) Monster (74 episodes) Genres: Drama, Historical, Horror, Mystery, Police, Psychological Age rating: Mature (May contain sex, drugs, and extreme graphic violence) Plot Summary: Kenzou Tenma, a Japanese brain surgeon in Germany, had it all: incredible skill at his work, a rich and beautiful fiancee, and a promising career at his hospital. However, after becoming disenchanted by hospital politics, he chose to save the life of a young boy who got shot in the head over the life of the mayor. As a result he lost the support of the hospital director, as well as his position in the hospital and his fiance. A short time later, the hospital director and the doctors that replaced him were murdered, and once again he was catapulted back onto the top. But as the chief suspect of the murders, Tenma did not get a easy life. As a matter of fact, it seems that the boy he saved was much more than he had appeared to be... Now to clear his name and to correct his past mistake, Tenma must get to the bottom of these and other murders, and investigate the truth of the Monster who is behind all of this. Thoughts The story is great, but you really have to be patient as the story unfolds pretty slowly. I nearly gave up on it but trust me, it does get much better the more (much, much more) you watch. | |
