Beep beep…beep beep…beep beep
Pillows and stuffed animals fell as a girl slapped the alarm clock. Her long mahogany hair was in a messy puff, her almond shaped brown eyes were half opened. Dazed, she sat up and stared into nothingness. It took her a minute to gain her conscious. When she realized what day it was, she jumped off her bed and landed on her cat’s tail.
“Rawr!” she hissed and ran into the closet.
“Sorry baby!” gasped the girl.
“RENA!!!!!!!!” someone shouted. “HURRY UP! THE BUS COMES IN 10 MINUTES!”
It was Jessica, Rena’s best friend and neighbor. Jess always came to her house in the morning. Rena’s mom was a great cook so Jess would come over for breakfast and yell at Rena for being slow.
“HURRY UP OR I’LL LEAVE WITHOUT YOU!!” Jess screamed.
“SURE! I’LL BE RIGHT DOWN!!” Rena replied as usual.
She wobbled to the bathroom still dizzy from sleep. As she got to the bathroom she tripped on a book. Why am I am such a klutz!?!? She brushed her teeth and her hair. She changed fast knowing that Jess would be running up the stairs any minute. She started gathering her notebooks and other schools stuff when Jess came stomping up the stairs yelling,
“HURRY UP REN!”
“I’m coming, I’m coming.” Rena mumbled.
“Let’s go” Jess sighed.
~downstairs~
“Hi mom. Bye mom” Rena grabbed her jacket and rushed out the door only to fall forgetting the stairs were there. Everyone knew that she was fine. Why do I always forget? And it’s my own house too!
“Wait sweetie, you forgot your lunch.”
“Thanks mom” she said still struggling to get her jacket on, while trying to grab the lunch bag, not to mention scrambling to get on her feet.
“Ugh! Come on Ren! Just hold the bag in your mouth!” Jess said in a hurried tone. Rena did as she was told, still struggling with her jacket.
The two friends ran to the bus stop which wasn’t that far from Ren’s house. Three other people were already there. Bridget, Alison, and the new cute kid that just move a week ago. It seemed that Bridget was flirting with the new kid and Alison was reading. No wonder she was so excited. But Rena just sighed.
“Oh great. Look who’s here.” Bridget sneered. “Why do you have a bag in your mouth?”
“Mm mmg hnk hm hm-mm” she mumbled.
Jess grabbed the bag from her mouth.
“She means that we were in a rush today.”
“Hi…” she shook the new kid’s hands.
“Ryan” he answered.
“Cool. I’m Rena. And this is my best friend Jessica” Rena said and hugged Jess. “Yeah whatever. You don’t wanna become friends with them, or you’ll never get popular. Stick with us, well, me, and you’ll be at the top in no time.” Bridget said. She then turned to them “Ryan lives across the street from me, so he’ll be coming to me for help”
Rena and Jess looked a each other, then to Bridget, then to Ryan, then back to each other. Suddenly they bust out laughing, Jess laughed so hard she started crying. Rena was the first to recover.
“I don’t think a dieing animal would come to you for help! Ryan, don’t go to her for help, unless you want beauty tips… which I don’t think you want. Go to Jess, she’s an honor student. Though, you don’t really seem like a guy that needs help in school.” Rena had a strange gift in telling what people are like, even if she just met them or look completely different then who they are. As long as she has eye contact she can see their personality, their hobbies, and their talents. She never told anyone about this secret, not even her mother or Jess.
“What are you talking about? He doesn’t look geeky.” Bridget said.
“Just because people are smart does not mean they are geeky.” Rena replied.
Jess was still gasping for breath.
“Bus is here!” said a voice. Everyone jumped. Oh my God. I totally forgot Alison was there. Everyone got in as soon as the bus doors opened.
~Rena~
When we got on the bus, Jess and I looked for an open seat, which wasn’t hard because we were one of the first bus stops. Ryan sat two seats away from us, Alison sat 4 seats away, and Bridget sat at the very back with another prep.
“So, what do you want to do after school?” I asked.
“We’re going to a job interview.” She said not looking at me.
“Cool, job interview. Wait, we? What?! NO! I won’t go. I refuse. You’re not going to drag me with you to another interview.” I pouted. She knew I wasn’t good at interviews and always made a fool of myself.
“Yeah… that’s how I thought you would react. It’s an open interview. So you don’t need to apply for any thing.” Then she tried to calm me down. “Don’t worry; I won’t make you go if you don’t want to.”
“Good.”
“I won’t make you go if you don’t want to; I’ll just beg you until you do.”
“ugh. Fine, I’ll think about it. Happy? What job is it?” I decided to go with whatever dignity I had left over from my other … experiences.
“Ice cream shop”
“That’s cool. Cold. I’ll need my jacket then huh?
At school, we met up with some of our friends. “Elina! Sara!” I yelled flapping my arms in the air as two girls turned towards us. We started running towards their direction. Bad idea. I tripped, of course. Ow. That hurt. I looked around, but it was a perfectly flat surface with nothing to trip on. Everyone was laughing when I was getting up.
“Do you need help?” a voice asked from behind me.
“I’m fine. Ow!”
“Really. That’s funny, because you look hurt. I’m Jacob by the way. But everyone just calls me Jake”
He offered me a hand to stand up, which I happily took because I twisted my ankle.
“Rena. Thanks Jake.” I mumbled.
I limped to my friends as he chuckled. My friends just laughed at me.
“Oh shut up!”
Good thing I’m not wearing a skirt. We walked to our lockers and then went to our first class. None of us had the first class together. I walked alone to the last room on the right. I bumped into someone as he was coming out. I dropped all my books and so did he.
“I’m sorry. I wasn’t paying attention.” I said while snatching my books.
“That’s okay. I wasn’t paying attention either.” said a familiar voice.
It was Ryan. “Sorry” I repeated as I went into the room when all my books were in my arms only to bump into someone else. More books fell onto the floor.
“Ugh! Not again!”
“Sorry” someone said.
“It’s ok. It’s myself I’m mad at. Why am I such a klutz?!” I was exasperated. There was a familiar chuckle.
“Jacob? What are you doing here?” asked Ryan.
“Oh, hey kid. You moved too?” said Jacob.
I see why he called him kid. Although Ryan was just average size, Jake was huge. He was taller than average and was very muscular. He looked like the type of person who would lift weights or was a football player.
“Who are you calling a kid? I’m older than you! Just because you’re taller than… everyone, doesn’t make me a kid”
“Umm… guys? Can I go in now?” I asked.
I guess they forgot where they were, which was in front of the door and blocking the way.
“Oh, right. Let’s go.”
They parted so that I could go through.
“Ladies first” said Ryan.
“Oh, umm thanks?”
I went in. when we got in I saw that all of the girls in class were preps. Oh great. This will be fun. I checked to see if they were all snobs or not. I hate you life. They were all preps. I sighed and walked to an open desk. They were all staring at me. I guess it was my black clothes. Most people think I’m Goth, punk, or emo just because my favorite color is black. I was wearing normal black pants, a regular black shirt with some red designs, and a silk black ribbon on my neck. I have always worn ribbons since 2nd grade. It was that or Ryan and Jake kept trying to talk to me but always ended up arguing with each other which got pretty annoying after a while. I got eye contact for a couple seconds with each of them. Jake and Ryan both had a secret, the same secret to be exact. But I couldn’t figure it out. Jake wasn’t very truthful and should not be trusted. Ryan could be trusted more. I got bored so a started doodling on my notebook.
I was so happy when class ended, I almost ran to my next class. 2nd period, I have class with Elina and Kirsten.
“So, how was 1st period?” Elina asked.
“Ugh, horrible. Everyone is a prep! Or a jock! The only two who aren’t jocks are Ryan and Jake” I shuddered.
“I don’t know why you don’t like them.” Jess replied.
“They’re really annoying. Have you heard them fight? They’re really loud. My ears are still ringing” I said “the only reason you think he’s not that annoying is because you like him.”
“Yeah, so? They’re really hot” said a girl as she sat down in front of me. It was Maddie, another superficial prep who only cares about looks and was in my 1st period. “Who cares if they fight and can be annoying? I wonder why they like you, I mean, look at you.”
“What’s wrong with black?
“Well, it’s ugly, and it’s ugly. And makes you look emo.”
“Do looks really matter?” I asked
“Well, if you have no brain then yeah!” commented Kirsten.
“At least I’m pretty, but I will get one of them” she turned away from me.
“Only people who are ugly need make-up to cover their faces” Elina giggled.
“Yup” I agreed. Kirsten stifled a giggle unsuccessfully.
Class went on, then the next class passed.
“Whooooooooooo! Lunch time!” screamed Jess as we went into the cafeteria. “Should we sit outside?”
“Nah it’s too cold, didn’t it just rain? Me no likey cold.” I said with a shiver. We walked to an open table and sat down. We started trading parts of our lunches when Ryan sat down behind me.
“Hey Rena.” He winked. I started banging my head on the table. Ow. Then Bridget, Maddie, and other preps sat down next to Ryan. This can not be happening to me.
“Hi Ryan” Maddie giggled.
“Yeah, I’m going to get a drink. Then maybe I’ll go to the bathroom and barf” I whispered to my friends. Kirsten giggled. I was getting up just as Jake came up to me. He opened his mouth to speak but I interrupted him
“Not now please. Unless you’re dieing, I don’t care.”
“What if I was dieing?”
“I would laugh. Move it”
“Don’t worry Jake. She’s always cranky when she’s hungry” Kirsten commented.
“And she gets hungry a lot. Sometime she can also be a bit of a sadist.” Elina laughed.
“Oh ha ha ha. By the way, you’re still in my way.”
“You’re right, she is cranky.” He moved away and I went to get a drink.
“Well, uhh…she didn’t have breakfast. And it is the most important meal of the day” Jess protected.
“Yeah, whatever, like we really care.” Bridget sneered. “Why don’t you sit with us Jacob?”
“It’s ok Jake. We can totally understand why you would want to sit with them instead of us.” Jess sighed.
“That’s ok.” He was eyeing Ryan “I think I’ll eat outside.”
“That’s probably a good idea. Rena doesn’t seem too fond of you. Or Ryan for that fact” Sara teased.
“Ok I’m back. What were you saying about me this time?” I asked walking to my seat. No one said anything. “Whatever” I sat down and started eating as Jake left. The day went on and when the bell rang we went to the buses.
“I don’t think I’ll go to the interview”
“Why not?”
“I just don’t want to. You know I hate interviews. Good luck on yours.”
“Fine. Be that way” she said angrily. I just snickered. I went home; she borrowed her mother’s car and went to the interview. I didn’t have any homework so I decided to take a walk. As I walked, something caught my eye. I bent down to pick it up. It was a little red pill with ‘blood xxyx’ written on it. That’s weird. Blood?! It looked like one of the pills you put in water and wait for it to dissolve. I threw it into a puddle left by the rain. Then, the strangest thing happened, the puddle turned red, blood red. Fascinated, I took a stick and used it to splash the water around. I thought of all possibilities it could be. Unfortunately I only came up with two… a water flavor tablet and medicine (although I don’t know why it would be marked with ‘blood xxyx’.). That’s strange. Oh well. Not caring anymore, I decided to go home. When I got close to my house, I saw Jess pull into her driveway.
“How did it go?” I yelled.
“Oh my gosh! Can you believe it? I got the job! And guess what, Ryan is working there too!” she screamed jumping in excitement.
“Great! Do you get free ice cream and how much do you get paid?”
“I think I do. I don’t get that much money. Only, like, 8 dollars an hour or something like that”
“I should’ve gone with you. I’ve got nothing to do.”
“Ha! Serves you right!”
“See ya later”
“Yeah bye”
I went inside to find my cat struggling in the sink and my mom with a bar of soap.
“Oh Rena, good. Come here and wash your cat. She went outside for awhile and came back in with mud all over her fur.”
“Fine.” I went over to the sink and started to scrub my cat, black rose, as she fidgeted. Once she was clean, she jumped out of the sink, ran to her cat basket, and started drying herself. Wet and cold, I decided to take a shower. After being relaxed by my shower I went to my room, plopped onto my bed and turned on the TV. Some time later I must have turned off the TV and went to sleep because when I opened my eyes it was morning.

That's pretty cool, would definitely like to read more. You have a couple of grammatical and spelling errors, but you can easily take care of that at your leisure.
The development of your characters are a little vague, but that can be worked on. When I mean vague, the dialogues and descriptions don't give me an idea of what the personalities are like, and who I should concentrate on. They all read like supportive characters, know what I mean? You got better the further you went into the story though, so it was mostly in the beginning. There's a little too many characters to concentrate on too, it got confusing trying to figure out who was who.
Another tip would be the description of the relevant environments you are working the story around. Knowing what the neighborhood or the school grounds look like can really help draw the reader into the story.
I got the impression that it took you a while to get into the story, because it started sounding much better around the second half of the story. If I am right (I am probably wrong ), your idea for the story revolved around the blood capsule, that was your first item, and because you had to build up to it, it seemed like your beginning wasn't as well thought out. That was my impression anyway.
You are probably saying, 'Wow, she can talk and talk and talk!' Sorry about that. I really wanna say, though, after everything I have said, you did a pretty good job on your writing. Would definitely like to see more, and keep up the great work.
Thanks for sharing!
