Welcome to Ollivanders, Makers of Fire Wands since 382 BC. Mr Ollivander is currently attending to some business away from the shop and has expressly asked that you, the potential customer, create your own wand from a specially prepared guide that he has spent years in the making. Care has been taken to ensure accuracy in order to make the most suitable wand for the aspiring witch/wizard.
Step 1: you must choose the wood that your wand and wand handle would be made of. A lot of people find that the wood that corresponds to their birthday works best for their wand needs. If not, you may choose from other type of woods. Most witches/wizards choose 2 types of woods - one for the wand itself and the other for the wand handle. Make your choice from the list, remember, choose two, and indicate which you want to be the wand and which the handle.
Using your birthday as a guide:
January 21 - February 17: Rowan - Spells and general all purpose
February 18 - March 17: Ash - Transfiguration
March 18 - April 14: Alder - Protective charms
April 15 - May 12: Willow - Spells and love charms
May 13 - June 9: Hawthorn - Transfiguration
June 10 - July 7: Oak - Protective charms
July 8 - August 4: Holly - Defensive spells
August 5 - September 1: Hazel - Spells and general all purpose
September 2 - September 29: Vine - Protective charms
September 30 - October 27: Ivy - Defensive spells
October 28 - November 24: Reed - Protective charms
November 25 - December 23: Elder - Defensive spells
December 24- January 20: Birch - Spells and animal charms
Alternative woods:
Cedar - Protective properties and money charms
Cherry - Love spells and charms
Hickory - Good for potions requiring wand use
Hornbeam - Good for luck spells
Mahogany - Protective properties and defense against dark spells
Maple - Good basic wand wood and money charms
Redwood - Good for success charms

Walnut - Strong mental powers
Ebony - One of the most powerful woods, good for defence against dark spells
Bloodwood - General all purpose wood
Zebrawood - General charms
Purpleheart - Spell Enhancement
Pink Ivory - Excellent for spells
Yew - Yew is the Wood of Death, which makes it a good defense against dark spells wood
Lacewood - Enhances charms
Tulipwood - Excellent for spell making
Olive - Used for longevity of spells
Step 2: Choosing your wand core. Most wands have a power core, and at Ollivanders, we pride ourselves on the quality of our power cores. We have, for many years, been using mainly phoenix feathers, unicorn tail hairs, etc, but we have been experimenting with different power cores and have decided to include some new cores into our selection process. Choose one that you think would best suit you.
Phoenix Feather - Defensive and detection spells
Unicorn Tail Hair - Protective and supportive charms
Dragon Whisker - Offensive spells and general spell enhancement
Fairy Hair - Charms especially love and mind charms
Hippogriff Feather - General potion-making and spell-casting
Step 3: Specifying the length of your wand. This length should include your handle and should NOT be more than 17 inches. Experiment to see what length would suit you most and let Mr. Ollivander know.
Step 4: (Optional) Ollivanders now has a special service for our customers. We will also include a gemstone pommel at the end of the handle for customers who would like the added power enhancement the gem will give. Gems are attuned to your birth month but you could also use one that isn't your birthstone or a gem that is not on the given list. Choose one if you wish, and note that it does NOT have to be placed at the handle, it can be anywhere you want. This is, after all, your wand.

This is my wand. I have always like mahogany and I chose ebony for the properties and color. I also chose these with being an Auror in mind. I am not sure if I want to design my wand as yet, but I hope to see some of you do that. It would be interesting.
