Tonight (well, erm, last night, I'm writing this at 5am) was a very different day than the usual routine I'm used to.

It was the 1st day of football camp which was really good. Fun fun. Football camp lasted from 6:00pm to 9:30pm. There was a huge storm here in Albany County; we ended up doing everything indoors.

When I got home after camp, all the power was out in 90% of the city. I rode my bike down to Price Chopper to look for my brother, but and ran into my 2 friends, Vinny and Chud (who also went to the camp). We went to McDonalds (mcdonalds runs on some generator sheeit) and ate dinner/caused minor public disturbances...

After we ate, we walked around the pitch blackness, then went to Vinny's house. We found out that his brother, Bobby, who is a senior like me, a year older than Vinny, and also plays football with us, was extremely sick with a fever of 104 -almost 105- degrees, which is an critically high temperature for your body to be at. He was sleeping on the couch when suddenly, his body started shaking, going into convulsions. It was scary. His mother was worried; she told us what to do. The three of us helped him on his feet, took him into the bathroom, stripped him and actually helped him take a shower with only cold water. He was practically unconscious the whole time. I helped him stand without falling over while his brother made sure he stayed under the cold water. There was still no power in the city. Chud held a flashlight so we could see what we were doing. After his shower, we helped him back to the couch. He was still gone though, passed out. His mom took his temperature by his armpit and it was down to 99 degrees, which means that shower really helped. This all happened at about 11:30pm.

Seeing one of my friends like this was just so crazy to me. I know some people may say, "It was only a high fever, things could have been worse," but it was more than that. It made me think of how much we take for granted in life, how you can lose a great person in the blink of an eye. Bobby is an amazing football player. He is the key definition of everything it takes to be one. He has a huge amount of heart, pride, character-- He's a great friend too. I know we're not going to "lose" him, but it's things like this that make you realize what you have in life.
