The NX Problem - NX Addiction

Back in the days of yore, when I started Maple Story.. We didn't have apple hats on Maple Island, 90% of everyone didn't know what a Work Glove was, where it came from, or what it did. Scrolling was as casual as scrolling when you earned one from a quest.

People did quests. I know, right? Noobs looked like noobs, Henny HG was full of clones of one another, different classes of course, but the same 3 (4?) male and female hair styles, the same equips ( albeit different colors ) and the same happy to be there kinds of chat. No B> This, that, or the other. No KS'ing ( OMG! ), at least not on the scale it is now.

While leveling my new Dit, I noticed a lot of things had changed.. Things I don't get to see on my Priest. This was around when Aqua & Ludi came out, right around when Wizet pulled its hands out of the game. Suddenly, patches started to happen on a monthly basis, instead of "whenever Wizet felt like it," and least of all.. The CS was barely touched.

You heard me. Back then, the biggest thing in patches were game glitch fixes and new worlds. If there was something new in the CS, barely anyone on Maple knew about it. The word Noob wasn't the first thing anyone thought when they saw a noob, and if they did it was hardly an insult. It just meant, " Hey, I'm new. Help me out? "

My dit was KS'd by NX'd out noobs. Level 11's wearing 60$ or more of NX with brand new pets, fully stocked with everything - Auto HP, MP, Binocular, Boot, Scale, both Magnets, are named, and dressed, and well fed. They have EXP Hair, and VIP Faces, contacts, facial equips, hair clips, clothes, gloves to cover their gloves and hats to cover their hats, effects, smega's and all manor of other things. They get bored with their NX?

They change it. , they decided and they'll get it.

Back then you made money NPC'ing equips you found, you found your own equips or if you got lucky to find a scroll you couldn't use yourself, you sold it and bought something from the FM with MESO instead of your real cash dollars. Kids blow all their allowance on game cards, they mac their parents paypal accounts on NX, they beg and cry and whine for new NX, for MORE. For this invisible in game currency that buys you invisible in game items to hide the things you're already wearing.

Now, when I first got NX, I was like, " Oh, this is neat. " And that's what others thought, " Oh, well that's neat. "

It wasn't an obsession, it wasn't a NEED. Having pretty hair didn't make my game experience any different than with say, the bowl cut from that Amoria wench.

Each patch in the last two years has had new CS items. Tons of them. In fact, several of the patches were ONLY FOR NX items. You aren't a Mapler if you aren't an NX'd Mapler. You aren't a good player if you don't have NX. You aren't going to make money if you don't have NX. And if you want to buy equips now? You hunt them like we did back then, or you buy NX, and buy it from Trade, where you can sell Maple items to other NX crazed Maplers for their NX. You hunt for your items or spend real cash on them. Meso? Game currency is half worthless now.

Not only has Nexon gotten so detached from their players that they couldn't tell you if Heal was a Cleric skill or a Warrior skill, they continually re-affirm that the quality of their game comes second to what they can sell in their Cash Shop.

Now, I'm not quitting Maple as I know some of you smart mouthed little brats will say as a response. I LIKE Maple. Nor am I denying that I buy NX myself. I'm talking about the stigmas surrounding NX ownership. People who charge hundreds of dollars at a time like it's nothing. Who will fully deck out a Noob in every CS item they can equip on it. Then QUIT their Noob for another one! Sure, I like NX items, some of 'em are cute. Do I feel the need to fill my inventory with Gacha and Equip covers from the CS? Nope.

But I will summarize that NX is a problem, an addiction to Maple worse than the game itself can be. Just as bad as WoW addiction. An electronic technicolor crack.

But I guess it isn't that bad yet. I've never seen a Smega saying, " B>NX! " When it gets that bad... Well. I'll decide what I'll do when that time comes.
