Any help is appreciated since this will be my first time building a comp.

Price isn't too big of a concern since I plan to use this for at least 4 years so I'm fine with spending a little extra, but of course I'd like to save money if I can.

Thoughts, help, compatibility help, anything is appreciated.

Okay...I think I'm done choosing and shopping around. The total including all costs (shipping, taxes) is $2463. After all the rebates, etc. its $2337. A thousand dollars less and it would be 1337.

Dunno if I should get a new tablet too, I've had a 4x6 Bamboo Fun for about half a year, maybe I'll upgrade to a 6x11 Intuos3 to work with my new widescreen. I can get it for a little under $300 which is pretty much $100 below retail. The internet works wonders.

Oh yeah, got a set of Logitech X-540 5.1 speakers for 50 bucks, and they're working great with my 5-year old computer. Sometimes the sound lags when the song changes, but I think that's just my computer. Works really nicely with my Gamecube too but the sound doesn't really feel like surround sound, but again, that's probably because its a Gamecube and not a PS3/360/Wii. No sound distortion even at max volume and the bass is sweet. You can probably damage your ears with these if you're not careful.

Pretty much an all-around computer for browsing, music, image editing, gaming, movies, anything that comes up really that will last me for at least 4 years. Considering that my current PC is 5 years old and is probably worth less than 300 dollars, it should feel like a very nice upgrade when I get it.

So far everything is compatible and should work correctly, but then again this is my first time doing this so I might have screwed something up along the way.

Are you using like a guide to build it or something?

You're using wiki to build it right?

IMO building a comp is a great experience but it's very costly X_X.
I keep waiting because prices fluctuate so much.

Yeah, I'm using this site.

It really is expensive. >_> It costs 2800 now and I'll get about 200 back from rebates, etc.

Why don't you just buy an AlienWare CPU?
Bands: AVA, Daphne Loves Derby, DCFC, The Postal Service

They don't make their own CPUs, they use Intel's.
Bands: No.

If you meant buying a computer from Alienware; hell no. A setup similar to mine costs more than 2000 dollars more and it isn't much better.

Well it sounds as though you've saved up for it so go for it. Just don't be surprised if the prices are halved in a year or two.

In all seriousness though, you really can't go wrong with quad core since hardware is virtually lightyears ahead of the software taking full advantage of it. So you could say it's an investment that will last you a while

Mm, they probably will, but that's just how it goes. 'Course if I wait until then, I'll want to get whatever is new and the cost is probably going to be even higher.

All that's left is to wait, my uncle wants to talk to me and go to Fry's with me to look for hardware deals, so until then. Agreed about the hardware, almost nothing is keeping up with the pace hardware is developing.

Looks ok, my only complaint would be gigabyte motherboards. Asus, MSI, Evga and XFX and are more solid brands in my opinion.
Also, if you plan to use more than one radeon graphics card, you're going to need a motherboard that actually supports that (ATI Crossfire). I'm not seeing any mention of it being a crossfire board from the newegg page.
Bands: Depends

Yeah, my uncle brought that up on the phone as well. We're going to look over the mobo's over at Fry's to find a good crossfire one since I haven't been able to find many good ones on the internet. Good to get your okay on it, thanks.
Bands: No.

I'm more of an Nvidia fan personally though. Can't speak for the latest Radeon cards by comparison with the latest Nvidia ones, but at the time I compared my 8800GT's to the nearest Radeon equivalent, all the reviews said the 8800GT's were about 20% faster. It's usually quite close with SLI vs. Crossfire though. Just gotta check all the benchmark reviews and see what fits your budget I guess.

Also, in choosing a motherboard, I suggest you check the forums for whichever you decide to get on the manufacturers site. Had I looked up my Striker II Formula on the Asus forums, I might have been a bit more wary of getting it. It was a bumpy road for the first few months until Asus released the necessary BIOS updates to fix some of the problems. This is more of a problem for new motherboards though, those that have been out for six months or more are generally better and more problem free.

Also be sure to check the compatibility listing of the ram with whichever motherboard you get. Sometimes, even if the slot is the same and the board accepts DDR2 or DDR3 ram, there can still be issues with the board liking or not liking specific memory modules between different RAM brands.

Memory is often the first thing to cause endless BSOD's, so it's good to be sure you're getting what has already been tested and shown to be compatible by the respective RAM manufacturers and even the mobo manufacturer if they aren't too lazy to have a listing of tested RAM.
Bands: Depends

Ah, thanks for the heads up about checking compatibility listings, I didn't know about that.

I'll check out the NVIDIA ones then, I'm not really partial to either brand so I don't mind which one I get. Whatever is cheaper and better is what I'm going to get.

I've been wondering about stream processors; more is better right?

I would imagine so.
