After playing both MapleStory and RuneScape for almost 2 years, I've come to the realization that overall, RuneScape is a far superior game. With all of the heated (forum) topics made about people's opinions of the two, I decided to try to end this once and for all. (Like that'll ever happen. All I'm really gonna do is post my own opinion, along with a list comparing both games. Well, here I go...)
-----
Cost
RS - Play for free, or pay just $5 a month to access additional features and content. No evil.
MS - Free to play, but that cash shop can be tempting... very tempting... very evil.
Storage Space
RS - The bank holds hundreds of items (more if you're a member)
MS - Storage initially holds just 4 items, however you can expand it with Nexon cash.
Quests
RS - Quests vary in difficulty, but offer great rewards, as well as additional skills.
MS - Quests usually involve killing x number of monsters, or collecting x number of items. The only variable that affects difficulty is the number of the items/monsters. Rewards? Ha! Don't make me laugh! Ok, sometimes you might get something nice, but most of the time it's something that's not worth the trouble.
Skills
RS - Dozens of skills to use, including combat, crafting, cooking, and more!
MS - A dozen skills to use, although you'll end up using only 3 regularly.
Leveling
RS - All of your skills have a level to raise. Max level is 99, and even at level 50, they don't take that long to level up.
MS - The only level is your character's level. At level 70, it can take days, even weeks to level up once. That's assuming that you play for several hours per day, which is just insane. Of course, you can just buy a double exp card for $15 (which lasts for 90 days).
Graphics
RS - Okay, so it's nowhere near World of Warcraft's graphics. Big deal. Personally, I think that they're pretty good for a browser-based game. Especially with the upgrades that Jagex just added.
MS - 2D anime-style graphics. Nothing to complain about here, unless you're one of those people who hate anime.
Making Money
RS - If you can make it, cook it, or catch it; you can sell it at the Grand Exchange, RS's in-game marketplace that's easy, and FREE to use. Just post something in the market, and walk away. Then, you can check it at any time, from any bank; and when your items sell, just collect your money.
MS - You can sell stuff in the Free Market, either by standing there for hours telling everyone what your selling, over and over again. Or, you can use Nexon Cash, and buy a shop item (yep, at the cash shop).
Servers
RS - Over 100 servers
MS - 6-20* servers (depending on which version of the game you're playing)
*Estimated (Ok, so I guessed on this one)
Kill Stealing
RS - In most areas of the game, you can only be attacked by one monster at a time, and that also applies to the number of people that can attack one monster at a time. This feature prevents people from kill-stealing.
MS - Sorry, there currently is no system in place to prevent kill-stealing.
Botters
RS - Random events occur every so often, such as an NPC appearing, or a super-strong monster. If the player doesn't respond, or in the case of the monster, retreat, the player will be attacked, and possibly killed. This feature helps prevent players from botting.
MS - Sorry, there currently is no system in place to prevent botters, except maybe reporting them. But does that really do anything?
Hackers
RS - I'm not really sure if hackers exist in this game, as I haven't encountered any.
MS - This is by far the biggest problem in MapleStory, and while there are systems in place to stop hackers, it's hard to say whether they're really making a difference.

Ok, I've stated my case, my opinions have been shown. Whether you agree with them or not doesn't really matter. If you read this, and decide to post a reply, please keep it constructive. As I said above, I was just posting my own opinions here. That's it.
I'm not trying to convince you to quit MapleStory, and play RuneScape. I'm also not planning to quit MapleStory, either. I've invested too much time into it to quit, and I've also made a lot of good friends while playing.
Before this blog turns into a full-fledged novel, I'll conclude by saying this:
If you're reading this, and you actually took the time to read the rest, thank you. If, however, you're one of those people who see a lot of text, and just put a tl;dr in the reply box, just leave now, and go back to school. (I'm kidding, chill out)
