Before we begin, it's about time - literally. Our wonderful English language is abundant with strange expressions, most of them having to do with time. For example, "Joe, you need to buy me some time". Where does poor Joe go to buy time? He could ask Bob where he's supposed to buy it, but then he'd be wasting his time. Of course, this is not in Bob's free time, but how much time does Bob have left? His clock is still ticking, so only time will tell. Have you ever been insulted by someone (usually an old person) that they will "clean your clock"? It sounds like a nice, noble thing to do.
There's also an expression that confused me as a child. "In the meantime". I used to think that you did mean things in the meantime. Time-outs really scared me, because I thought that during those two minutes I would stop growing! But anyway, my time is growing short, so until next time, have a wonderful time.
