I think it's time for me to take an extended break from Maple. . . . I've been feeling apathetic for a while. And then I was nudged over the edge by the double-whammy of the Ariant patch plus private server crackdown.

Seriously, Nexon. Cracking down on copyright infringement by fans who run their servers for fun, not profit . . . and in the same week or so, implementing content that both bears uncanny similarity to a couple Disney properties and blatantly copies Antoine de Saint Exupéry--certainly not without consideration for the Nexon bottom line. Oh, and the freaking ad bar underneath the game in windowed mode. 'Cause I totally would not be lured into logging on, if not for that ad bar when I logged on. Yup.

And now, the question. What should I try out for my MMORPG fix? Any specific games you'd recommend, or any sites that could help compare different games (or find games with X or Y characteristics)?

Of course, because I'm a prissy DK, not just any game will do. Through casually poking around on various other games' sites (nothing stood out), I've realized that I'm very picky about interface and game format. These are some characteristics of Maple that I'm rather attached to, and I'd love to see replicated:

* The 2D side-scrolling platformer format. 3D makes me woozy. I can't even watch for long when other people play, say, WoW.
* Minimal mouse use. (The new keyboard-based interfaces in Maple made me very happy, actually.) I like my hands on the keyboard most of the time. I tried Dofus for a bit today; aside from the 3D-ness, I was irritated at having to point and click to move around and kill monsters. (Unless I totally missed the non-clicky ways to move and engage in battles . . . )
* PvP optional, or totally unavailable. I don't wanna beat up on (or get beaten up by) other players. (Monster Carnival makes me feel guilty inside.)
* Noob friendly. Maple was my first MMORPG. I know a lot of them can be considerably more complex. So I'm hoping for either fairly straightforward gameplay, or good guides (official or by fans) and/or in-game tutorials. Or, heck, a community that's friendly and helpful to people with nooby questions.
* Okay for solo play, at least at first, before I make friends. I'm a wee bit antisocial.

. . . Told you I was easily pleased!

That said, it must be free at least for a good test run. If I like it, I don't mind paying for a subscription or for individual enhancements (like you do with NX).
