Godly! Pro! 1337! I'm sure plenty of of you who play Global MapleStory have noticed these phrases. All titles given to people with impressing items, or damage, or mesos. This is nice. They got something good, and they deserve a little praise. However, some people have started judging people based on these factors. If it's not up to par, those judged people become inferior, they suck, they're not worthy. That's the way of the world. That's very basic. That's so stupid! That... is the double 1337 syndrome.

I made up the Double 1337 Syndrome on a whim. It's a case of taking the awesome, stepping up, and expecting that step up all the time. 1337 can also be interpreted as numbers. Always wanting higher numbers because the standard in a player's head is set too high. You can find people who expect the best of the best. Dexless sins, lukless mages, even dragon knights are expected to be low-dex to be strong now. What ever happened to sensible leveling speeds? Normal damage? A regular item? They've all been dubbed as trash...

Exp must always be the fastest it can be. People are always trying to see if they can do anything to level faster. Exp is always a little too low, or a little slow. Before 2xp cards, people were always complaining about the exp. Even with 2xp cards, people will idle on the issue of how to level faster. Faster! Faster! Faster! That's the mentality of people these days. Every thing's expected at top speeds, without delay. Within their expectations, or it's bad.

Items are everything. With pack-editors roaming around selling white scrolls by the crate full, better items are coming out and people are training in stronger areas. Some people even use onyx apples regularly so they can train in even stronger areas. Items are expected to be godly, or the player has to have above-average stats. If neither is present, a player could be laughed at, labelled a noob, or even KSed because the other person doesn't think they deserve to be in that spot.

From the beginning, KSing erupted because of these number-obsessed madmen. 2xp cards led people to think their training was more important then others. Better items made some players think they can do what they want. KS wars ignite everyday because someone thinks little of someone else. All the time, you can find someone whose in need of help, or someone laughing about a "noob" they just ksed out of a map.

1337ness shifts without notice. Everyday, we're always trying to find the standard. Something better comes, so everyone's after it. People are always trying to get better some way or another. Not even realizing they're doing it because they've been effortlessly programmed by the world to think they need to be better. Those who don't seem confusing, or stupid. Ok, maybe some of them really don't know about the better methods, but did it ever occur to those judgmental players that those types just don't feel like using those methods?

Enough is most certainly enough. It's nice to see some people remember that it's a game. Kick out all the thought about wanting to be as good as someone else, and you have yourself a very enjoyable game. MapleStory was never a competition. Find your own pace. Your own strength. Don't get caught up in your own double 1337 syndrome.

1o.o9.o8 Edit: Yes, I'm totally aware that Double 1337 Syndrome is a totally lame name for a mental problem.
