OH NO!
Lol. Right now at 11:23PM on a Sunday night, I am thinking about the finals that are coming soon. At the moment, I am unsure of the exact date of when finals begin but I am pretty sure they will be sometime in early June.
I'm really not that worried about most of the finals since there is no subject that I'm really "struggling" in. Well, english is a different matter since we kind of don't learn or do much in english beside talk - and her tests are basically 10 short answer questions that each require half a page answer, plus two essays which adds up to 4 pieces of lined paper front and back with writing. However, she never grades stuff in time because of her making such odd tests so she usually ends up giving us all 90s and above; so no worries for english.
But biology... Biology, biology, oh woe is me, what shalt do I? I can start by saying that the current "biology teacher" I have is a total 'n00b' so to speak. Or maybe a lack of a biology teacher since he's been away two weeks already because his wife just had a baby. Well, the first two months of the school year, he spent it teaching us the ins and outs of Chapter 1: The 7 Themes of Biology which was a total of only 12 pages. (You know... homeostasis, metabolism, evolution, etc. ) After chapter 1, it seemed that he slowly started to "decline" and stop teaching. It soon came to the place where he just didn't bother teaching anymore and just gave us section reviews or worksheets to do with the textbook. But soon we all found out that you didn't even NEED to do any of that work to get an A in his class; almost as if it were optional. Students who did nothing got basically the same grade as a student who did all the work. Basically, everyone stopped doing any assignments he gives. (A friend and I still do some of the work however, for the sake of the fact you're supposed to do work in school. ) I recall that the last bio midterm we had, we were all silently cheating since we didn't know anything and at least 2/3 of the class ended up with something lower than an 80 - we all "mysteriously" still had A's on our report cards though. (I myself got a 78 on the bio midterm but I still had a 96 average.)
My point is that I will now be unprepared for the biology midterm. Oh noes! And sadly, biology is not one of those subjects (at least for me) that I can simply just read the textbook and understand how it all works. This leads to what made me a bit irked when the other bio teacher a few days ago (the one that actually teaches) came in to our class to tell us to "self-study" the next three chapters while our so-called-teacher wasn't here. In my opinion, what's the point of teachers if we could all just simply "self-study" from a textbook. Why don't we all go get ourselves a freaking textbook from the bookstore and just stop going to school since we can all learn by ourselves? The point of having teachers is to TEACH. I don't think my Mom pays her taxes so that it can go pay toward some ass who is just going to sit around or tell us to self-freaking-study. All in all, what I'm worried about is how I won't know 25 chapters of information for biology; and simply reading through all 25 chapters and attempting to memorize every line in the matter of 3 weeks won't do it.
This brings to another thing that's on my mind now. The correlation of a bunch of new BAD teachers with a new principle this year. Ever since the last principle left, eleven teachers left at the same year so they had to hire these people on the spot. I don't know what exactly is wrong and why the principle hired these people for our school, but i can say 7/11 of those teachers are utterly ridiculous and definitely not MSTM standard teachers. I found it quite sad when my english teacher said she was fired from Parkway because the principle said she was white and that most of the black students wouldn't listen to her. I'm quite sure I can say for the whole class that they would have either burst out laughing or scoffed (that is if we weren't worried for getting in trouble) at that and tell her "that's a lie" because we all knew it was because she was a lousy teacher who was unable to control the students or teach well for her life. That principle was just trying to let her down easy rather than saying something along the lines of "You suck. You're not suitable to be a teacher."
What the heck is going on in my school? At this rate, we won't be ranked #1 in state anymore and will eventually just be like every other public/neighborhood school in the city that many parents were trying to prevent their kids from going. There would be no point in struggling to get in MSTM if you would just be sitting in a classroom talking or doodling! It also makes me pissed off how the city's crime rate is basically skyrocketing, almost to the point where it was like Camden, NJ about a year ago.
ARGHHH... Now that that's out of my chest. I was just very frusterated and needed to write this out. I like slacking off as much as the next kid but slacking off and not learning doesn't bring you anywhere in life. And sorry for the long rant, and sorry if anyone doesn't agree to what I say. This is one of those "spur of the moment" rants type of thing. >_>

I too need to study for Biology(Finals AND State testing tomorrow and Wednesday)
I had a great strict teacher that was all business but the whole class got switched out to a teacher that came back who is nice and all. Usually a strict teacher intimidates me to learn since i know i will be given a grade i deserve but nice teachers are naive and i can slide right by.

Also do you want to look over my notes that I have created up to chapter8 in the BSCS Biology: A Molecular Approach (freshman taking Bio Honors hope your not taking Bio AP)
Bands: Same as above.
Yeah, leniant teachers give the feeling that you can slide by anything. Everytime I forget my eng hw, I just show her the same hw I did about two days ago. >_>;
Well, I took the time to read the chapter tests of the textbook you use, and it's basically the same thing we have learned. (Yes!) So could I see your notes if it's not much trouble?
Thankfully I'm not taking AP Bio and I never will. I was invited to a senior AP Bio trip before to the center for spinal cord injury & -for the lack/loss of a better word- dead cut-up people. I fainted on the trip before I even got to see the morgue. --;; Plus I don't think I like cutting up pregnant cats.

From memory my highschool biology teach was crap, however all the teachers I had at university were pretty awesome.
If you need any help I may be of some assistance. Did my undergrad in Genetics and computer science and at the moment im finishing off my PhD in Computational Biology. While I probably cant help you memorise 25 chapters, i might be able to explain some things that you're having trouble with.

Well said. Sounds like your school needs to get back on track. Reminds me of when I was in 8th grade taking Earth Science and how we all cheated on the final, what a worthless class ><. Anyway, if you have any questions about Bio, there are a couple of us that are Bio Majors or graduated as one (Tracy, Lyle, Me, etc) that *should be able to answer them. No promises though
Yeah, I've only just finished first year of a BSc undergraduate in computer science, and I can honestly say I hate the universities approach to teaching biology. They expect you to go to lectures 3 hours a week, absorb what little information the prof dishes out, then go back and study from a book for 2 hours a night. I miss high school with the 30 person class sizes and teachers you can actually communicate with, instead of arrogant know-it-all profs. Anyways, I hated bio so much I didn't even bother buying the $250 text book, played maplestory through half the lectures and only studied 3 days before the finals and midterm. Ended up with a final grade of 72, through saving a quarter of a grand and using little effort. Bio = fail, me > Bio. Anyways, with what little information I did take from high school and university I am also available to try and answer any of your questions.
i should huh
