I originally posted this to my personal blog (http://moofey.wordpress.com ) and I've been posting this at various other communities just to bring awareness just to what the dangers are to sharing your account not just on MapleStory, but on any other internet service as well.

Today, a lot of my friends just had a very big wakeup call as to why you should never share your accounts.

My best friend’s ex boyfriend, who just happens to be a hacker, has her account info. Now, I don’t exactly know what was done but gathering everything that I’ve put together, this is what happened.

Today, he ended up getting banned for hacking. Now, he’s been notorious for it (obviously) and has been banned multiple times on different accounts for the same offense, and in which case I guess Nexon decided that a ban on all the accounts that were recently accessed from his IP. (And just for a lesson in useless Internet lingo, this is what people on GameFAQs call a “usermap axe.”)

It just so happened that he logged onto her account that day, and either way he had logged onto that account in the past few days numerous times as well. As a result, she was banned for 30 days.

And this is why, people, you should never share your account. Is it a ToS violation? Yes. Does Nexon enforce it? Not very often (NXJoeW even said this himself) but as you can see by this incident, they will enforce it when the circumstances see fit.

It ain’t worth it; keep your account info to yourself, and make sure your computer’s anti-virus and anti-spyware is kept fully updated to ensure that no rogue programs that can release your information become a factor as well.

In actuality, I discovered that the reason for her ban was not a usermap axe, but account sharing still plays a contribution to this. I’m not gonna change the story that I have written out simply because it makes a good story to try to convince people to not share their accounts.
