It is discouraging to the moderators that we even need to ever explain our actions at all. If a user just reads over the rules, 90% of the time they should be able to conclude why they were suspended. I know this because most the time when someone pm's me asking why, I just basically repeat what the rules already clearly say and they understand just fine. Even if something is not yet updated to the rules, after the first suspension, it should be fairly obvious.

If a user still disagrees after reading over the rules, please, take it up with Mr. Basil via the main menu report function, we don't need to debate it with people as we do not have the ability to reverse your suspension anyway, not to mention that we probably wouldn’t anyway because on the whole, we don’t believe we have made any mistakes. I certainly know for myself as I have checked with Mr. Basil on borderline issues before just to be sure.

In addition to that, you don't have to constantly try make us look bad for the sake of doing so just because you're unhappy with the current rule system which I believe is more than sufficient to anyone who is mature enough to read over them and decide to avoid breaking them. I know there are several active users who have yet to get suspended at all. Look at waterwaker, as badly as we get alone, I have yet to ever see him break the rules and have therefore not suspended him. I have seen others also make mention that they have not been suspended yet either, or some that have, but rarely so.

One last thing I would like to mention:
If you see someone breaking the rules, please click the "+" sign in the corner of their post and send in a report, it helps us do a more efficient job on the whole since we cannot be everywhere at once. That way, you needn’t complain that we aren’t doing a good enough job, because in essence, you should be helping us by reporting rule-breakers.

If you have to report anything that is not post related, (e.g. false suspension complaints, fake avatars or feedback scamming), please rather do so via the main menu report function as Mr. Basil deals with things like that. In the case of false suspension complaints, if your suspension is not reversed after sending in a complaint, you can usually conclude that the suspension was not without reason.

We're just trying to do the best job we can.

I've talked briefly to Mr. Basil about this. I think that one of the problems with BM is that it doesn't use a popular forum system, things like the report system don't point to a specific post. But really, the fact of the matter is that the internet is a magnet for stupidity and people will flame people a lot more than they would in real life, untill someone invents a way to punch another over the internet - BM will get trolled as with a lot of other forums. The simple solution is to lock/ delete offending topics.

One thing I really dislike with BM, and you mentioned too is that every few days a trade won't happen or someone will notice a fake auction and post a topic in the Site Talk area (or a random forum). It's nothing more than openly attacking another user, rightly or wrongly, it should be stopped.

I live in a giant bucket

vusys: Can't quote for some reason, idk what's up with that, anyway, reports do direct us to specific posts, unless you meant something else.

I thought I got banned a few days ago.. I was multi-tabbing Bail, and once a page loaded, on the top it conveniently said "You're currently suspended from that "
I almost pooped myself.. Anyways, I suggested pop-up boxes on the side of the page where it was white to have reminders, and rules in them. My idea was shot down by the big man himself.

What, another one? ^^

I just don't see why they just don't get an ipban...
And sure everyone gets a second chance, but a 3rd 4th 5th suspension isn't going to help either.
They know dam right what they do....

And i always wondered that,
Whenever there is someone on basil spamming links to porn, does he get a suspension or an ipban?
I would like to know because whenever the suspension is gone the person can do it again and a week later again... and again.... and again.
Bands: *checks playlist* To many to list.

I agree with Gilly, I reported someone who put hentai so he would get banned, and yet, his link was still there and he doesn't seem to be banned. ^^

I've been suspended like 2 times for a 'bad word'. Pff just no posting for a lil while. Btw why can't I quote ppl? When I try to click the quote button I get kicked back to the main page. Maybe they're fixing that right now with the site being down an all.

If you report a user via the corner of their post, we should get and be able to moderate it sooner on the whole. If a user is not dealt with within like 12 hours, it would probably be a good idea to re-report them if it's an offence like hentai or porn and other more extreme things.

Porn posters generally get an IP ban I believe.

Just to say something that you may not hear a lot, but I have noticed a dramatic increase in response to reports since the forum moderators were allowed to read reports. Like instantaneous response times sometimes. Like earlier tonight. You even beat me to a thread! But yeah, I think that that was a REALLY good move to allow more people than just mrbasil to read the reports. I'm sure that must have been impossibly overwhelming for one person.

Such a shame that you guys' hard work goes so underappreciated. But I guess like in real life, there are a lot of people that bash on cops for hardly any reason at all. It's that generic dislike for rule enforcement/enforcers. I hate that.

Thanks for doing a great job as a moderator, Mindstormer!

Yeah, the reports have helped our efficiency a lot. Thanks for all your help in reporting as well.

Mindstomer: How? If I were to report your 'No more rollback' post, the page it refers to is:
http://www.basilmarket.com/forum/518605/6//NO_MORE_rollback_topics.html

Not your spefic post:
http://www.basilmarket.com/forum/518605/6/10290787#10290787

To report a specific post, you have to click the "+" sign in the upper right hand corner of the actual post and select the report feature there.

Well look here.. "Look at waterwaker, as badly as we get alone, I have yet to ever see him break the rules and have therefore not suspended him."
I guess I gave myself quite a name behind the scenes of Basil

If you ever noticed, the only times I got suspended was for cursing. Which I did willingly. I've had experiences with holding back anger, so I gave into those suspensions purposley. Or for "spam".. though in the couple times it happened, I never saw it as spam.
