Okay so my friend is currently readding a lot of manga, and she wants to learn how to draw it. I'm not what you call good at all, but mostly what she needs is waist and up, because she's trying to hand-make a manga. I suggested to her to just read some manga and watch some anime and study it, maybe look at some other pieces and look at her own work, compare, practice etc. I was thinking about trying to find a guide, but I want her to be introduced to many forms of drawing, not just a few.I know different people have different styles, and they range a lot... just curious if anyone found anything really helpfull or something you think is a good tool in drawing manga. Thanx!

I think she should go and find some course for that if she wants to learn how to draw very fine .
Blogs: Oh my god,

she should sign up for a drawing class that is specified for animation. I could draw but I can't draw perfectly. Most of the time, I find a picture which I like and start to copy it. At first, it is hard and I erased a lot but then time after time, I get better in copying those anime pictures. I guess, she should try. No one can be successful on the first try.

if her school offers a class or if there's any community classes for it, she should take it. And on top of that, she can google drawing lessons. The classes are a way to get some very solid grounding for drawing, then taking the time out and studying other people's drawings is how a style is formed

Well, a good choice is to take a class in it. But if not, then there's tons of drawing books that teach you everything about manga.
Bands: -stabs Jonas Brothers- I have it stuck in my head... darn you little cousins

deviantart.com has some very good anime drawing tutorials. just search "anime drawing tutorials" simple

I learned how to draw manga from watching a crap load of bleach and from a how-to-draw-manga book

Tell your friend that she won't learn to draw manga just by reading it. She also needs some tutorials on body parts.

Edit:

Well I didn't learn how to draw anime/manga like that, but I'm sure everyone else did. >.>
Bands: I don't normally listen to bands, but rather single artists like Jennifer Lopez

I teach art here locally part time. I love anime/manga (and yes I'm an adult), but I'm not very good at drawing in that style. Mine is more cartoony or western-anime then anything else. I also have taught many things including cartoon/comic drawing, anime drawing, basic drawing, etc.

Here are my suggestions:
1) Take some basic art classes. Any drawing class will help her draw EVERYthing better, not just whatever the subject matter is.
2) Try to develop her OWN style! Don't copy or trace someone else's work (COPYRIGHT infringement). Take something and make it YOUR own.
3) Buy some drawing/manga books. I really like Christopher Hart's books. He doesn't talk down to kids and yet they are challenging enough to keep me interested.
They also don't have nudity in it which some parents don't like. There are other good ones out there. If you want some suggestions, PM me and I'll make a list.
4) Invest in some graphite pencils and other tools. (Once again I can supply a list if needed.)
5) Look around! I've been doing this 5 years and people still don't know I'm out here! I do both group and private lessons. I bet if your friend looks around he/she might find a class dealing with anime, animation, cartooning or other drawing in this genre.

Good luck and let me know if I can be of more help!

I personally love how Bone is drawn. It is a beautifull comic book. I don't know if it's "manga" but the drawings are really good IMO.
Bands: I am listening to the clickity clatter of my laptop's keyboard.

I suggest that you can find some japanese manga books for styles. Western's are not too bad in body shapes but I think japanese ones are better with their eyes and emotions. Reading more comics might also help She can start drawing with a manga that has no action, just a manga standing straight.
