Yeah, even so, InuYasha got pretty old after a while. Summary:
Kagome: Oh no, InuYasha, save me!
Inu: ...My doggie senses are tingling! *runs and jumps off cliff into a forest*
Villain: Hehehe... maiden, you shall perish! *lunges with weapon*
Inu: *runs in at last moment and saves her*
Kagome: Oh no, InuYasha, that was so close!
Viewers: DAMNIT. WHY. WON'T. SHE. FUCKING. DIE. *slit slit slit*

And then, of course, there's Kyoko, who is reborn 448597928457 times, and Noraku who changes forms but who of course never prevails over the male with dog ears. So there you have it. You can see how utterly I dislike InuYasha, as much as I think Rumiko Takahashi is good.
